I arrived in Dar es Salaam on Thanksgiving Day (after flying directly over Mt. Kilimanjaro!), slept most of the day, and enjoyed a feast that night with a group of Americans living here, two of whom are kindly hosting me. In lieu of turkey and cranberry sauce, we had tacos with all of the fixings and afterwards felt like one does after Thanksgiving dinner - stuffed. Taco shells are a special treat here since they cost a small fortune but the avocados, mango, and pineapple are abundant and sold from the road-side stands and the baskets on the backs of bicycles. We said grace and went around the table saying what we're thankful for ... I think that everyone mentioned families, friends, health. And sharing tacos in the lively company of new friends.

T-day tacos in Dar
